That I’ll Never Forget!

This post is a follow up to one I posted on March 11, 2026 regarding the band, Brigitte Calls Me Baby.

Two weeks ago, after much anticipation, I saw Brigitte Calls Me Baby live in concert at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom. The Bowery is a fairly small venue, so I was able to get pretty close to the action on stage. After seeing the show, I can say with confidence that Brigitte Calls Me Baby is much more than “Impressively Average”. The band sounded absolutely amazing, and their performance solidified my already existing love for their music. These guys, Wes Leavins (lead singer), Jack Fluegel (guitarist), Devin Wessels (bassist) and Jeremy Benshish (drummer) can truly play and sing live, which as many people know, is a rarity these days. Most of the songs in their set list were from their second album, Irreversible, but they did cover a song by the Strokes. I was so impressed by the band’s performance that I seriously didn’t want the show to end, and this is coming from a woman in her fifties who doesn’t stay up past 8:30 pm, even on the weekends! I was dancing and singing the entire time with a level of energy I didn’t know I could muster after 9pm on a weeknight. It was truly a blast!

Looking around at the crowd before the band took the stage, I noticed that many of those in attendance were, like me, on the mature side, though the woman standing next to me was accompanied by her two sons (ages 22 and 25) who are also fans of the band. There was also another group of young men a few feet in front of me who seemed to have come together and were dancing and singing along during the show. I attended the concert with my sister, who is just a few years younger than I am. She joked that the poor guys in the band were probably wondering where all the hot, young chicks were. I admit, I was wondering the same thing, but perhaps they don’t care. I’m not sure if that’s even a measure of success anymore. Does the band have a hot lead singer and a cool overall aesthetic? Check. Meaningful lyrics? Check. Catchy music? Check. Unbelievably moving vocals? Check, check. Brigitte Calls Me Baby sold out almost every show on their tour, so perhaps it doesn’t matter that it’s mostly Gen Xers who are driving this band straight to the top, as it’s a place they clearly deserve to be.

After the show, the guys in the band came out to the bar area to sign merchandise for fans. I was lucky enough to be standing by the doorway from which Wes Leavins entered the room and I approached him for a photo. Even though he was instructed to ignore my request, he didn’t, and stopped quickly to take a photograph with me. He is soft spoken and seems gentle and kind (FYI: He’s just as model-gorgeous close up as he is in his photos).

At the merch table I bought a vinyl copy of the band’s first album. At first, I was unsure about which of their two albums to purchase, so I sang a few lines of the song I wanted on vinyl to Jack, Devin and Jeremy (Yes, I sang one of the band’s songs to the band – overconfidence is a welcome side effect of aging!). Even though I’ve been listening to both albums on repeat for weeks, for the life of me I couldn’t recall the name of the song (never underestimate the power of perimenopausal brain fog to kick in at just the right moment!), and the guys graciously directed me to The Future is Our Way Out.

After Wes unwrapped the album’s plastic cover, the entire band kindly signed it. I truly hope their demeanors don’t change as their fame grows, which based on the crowd’s reaction to their performance and the long line at the mech table, it most certainly will – exponentially, I predict.

I’m guessing that if I do get to attend another Brigitte Calls Me Baby concert down the line, I won’t be getting tickets for under thirty dollars, I won’t be as close to the stage as I was this time around and I won’t get to sing to the band, so I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see them when I did. It’s a pretty cool experience to see a band in concert when they are relatively new to their audience.

I look forward to listening and watching BCMB as they continue to make their impressive mark on the music world. I’ll still be dancing and singing to their tracks though admittedly, it may be at 5:30pm in my kitchen on a Monday as I prepare dinner for my family. We can’t all be rock stars.
